Melanin Madrid helps English teachers, Study Abroad Students, Digital Nomads and Families move to Madrid through community, consulting and digital resources. Melanin Madrid did not start off that way though!

The Story of Melanin Madrid
In 2016, Melanin Madrid was born from a simple yet powerful idea: to create a space where expats of diverse backgrounds could find community, connection, and cultural understanding in Spain’s capital. What started as informal meetups and shared experiences quickly grew into a movement that would redefine the expatriate experience in Madrid.
Founded with the mission of fostering inclusivity, empowerment, and knowledge-sharing, Melanin Madrid became a bridge between cultures. Expats, travelers, and locals alike found a space to network, learn, and celebrate their shared and unique journeys. The group’s early days were filled with casual gatherings, heartfelt conversations, and the kind of support that made relocating abroad feel less daunting.
By 2019, Melanin Madrid had established strong partnerships with universities and local organizations, offering cultural competency programs and professional networking events. As membership grew, so did its impact. Relocation resources, career development workshops, and digital content became integral to the platform, providing guidance to those navigating life in Madrid.
In 2020, amidst global uncertainty, Melanin Madrid pivoted to online engagement. Virtual events, webinars, and social media discussions kept the community connected despite physical distance. It was also the year that the concept for Black in Madrid, a nine-episode docuseries, was developed. In 2021, the docuseries was officially launched, offering a deeper look into the Black experience in Spain.
The following years saw rapid expansion. Melanin Madrid enhanced its consulting services, introduced structured digital courses, and hosted its first major event series, Diaspora Vault. In collaboration with the Embassy of Spain, the platform supported the Aux Life Podcast, further solidifying its role as a leader in relocation and cultural integration.
Now in 2025, Melanin Madrid is entering a new phase. With the upcoming launch of the Move to Madrid Course, a redefined membership experience, and expanded consulting services, the platform continues to evolve. Additionally, Melanin Madrid is looking to develop stronger partnerships with universities in the U.S. to prepare students for life in Madrid. By working with academic institutions, we aim to equip students with the necessary cultural, professional, and logistical knowledge to thrive in Spain, fostering smoother transitions and deeper cross-cultural understanding. Furthermore, in 2025, Melanin Madrid has developed a partnership with the Embassy of Spain’s NALCAP Podcast, strengthening its role in providing key insights and resources for those relocating to Spain.
The journey of Melanin Madrid is still being written, shaped by the voices, experiences, and aspirations of those who are part of it. Whether through events, digital resources, or real-life connections, Melanin Madrid stands as a testament to the power of community and the beauty of embracing life abroad
